4. MATTERS ARISING:
PUMP AREA AND NEW ROAD GARDEN.
Dave has sent in the application for funds, having received it back from the Parish Clerk & we are awaiting the outcome, this could be upto 4 months before approval is granted. Dave to contact Liz when he hears although they should hear directly .
PARISH COUNCIL
John is to present the donation of £500 from Alton Regeneration Group towards planting of bulbs etc. on verges around the village. Payment was delayed because nobody from the PC had contacted him regards information on who to make the cheque payable to.
John mentioned the fact that several of the tree/shrubs on the village entrance had died & wondered if the strimming was a reason but Gillian said that the trunk had split on the silver birch & looks the likely cause for it’s demise.
It was also mentioned to Gillian that the verge down New Road was full of nettles which were causing pedestrians to stray onto the road in order to get past them, she will mediate with John & the owner of the land to see if he will allow them to be cut back as the PC seem to be unable to effect this.
PLANNING FOR REAL – Took place at Church fetes. St Peter’s – Sat 7th June, St. John’s – 14th June
Questions were printed, bell ringers marquee was used in Eddie’s field.
Dave did a splendid job & got lots of feed back, plenty of people (130 +)took the time to answer the questions posed & the idea of stickers next to the corresponding areas of concern was a great success. So thanks to Dave from us all for getting such a good response. Also thanks to the Village Hall for the use of their tables.
John & Gillian offered apologies for their lack of support as they were both inconvenienced on the day of St John’s ,when they had hoped to help. However thanks to Tony Moult for his input.
Dave presented us with some results in draft form for us to study prior to the next meeting. He stated the importance of this mandate, he said that we should act on the issues raised by the villagers, this was agreed & would be discussed at the next meeting.
YOUTH PROJECT)
SPORTS FIELD ) Included in the village appraisal
ALLOTMENTS )
SPORTS FIELD
It is felt that this is still an important project for the future, Brendan & Chris are to have discussions with St Peter’s governors to see if they are in agreement & Linda will try to get more info on the ownership side of the land from Caroline Gregory(Headmistress) & what she would like to see for the school’s use. It would also be part of the strategy to try to get coaching laid on for the different sports activities. We want to encourage the youngsters (and not so young)to participate in all of these activities.
It is necessary the get parents & children involved with this venture if it is to proceed & more importantly, thrive,Dave said new funding ”Taking the Leap” is in the pipeline & can be used for all sorts of projects.
WEBSITE
The website is now registered in the name of the Alton Regeneration Group from Mark Smallwood, but Mark had been sent ,and paid, the outstanding bill of £117.50.John has reimbursed Mark with a cheque for the full amount as agreed at the last meeting. Emails have been sent to most of the businesses who use the website for advertising but due to the slow response John will endeavour to get a letter to encourage their contributions as well. It is important to remind them to forward donations which are essential to keep the website functioning. Once again our thanks to Neil for his management of the webpages.
NOTICEBOARD
The noticeboard outside the chapel to be re-sited to wall outside Gill’s shop.As mentioned prior, She does not want posters in the windows. John will still move it but has been a bit busy of late, his apologies for the delay were accepted although he still has to talk to Claire Head about the spare noticeboard left at the JCB Estate office.
BEST KEPT VILLAGE
Gillian stated that there was to be a hanging basket and tub competition. 1st prize £100, 2nd prize £50, 3rd prize £30 judges to be representatives from each group, however uptake had been very slow from the villagers. Alan said that there was a grant available for planting so he will get an application form to Gillian.
AOB
Alan said that Sylvia Hollins(Councilllor) had approached him regards posts around the football pitch next to the car park to prevent cars getting onto the pitch, but it was thought that they could get grants from the representative for village halls, a person they have dealt with on many occasions.
