ALTON REGENERATION GROUP (SRB)

Minutes of the meeting held on Tuesday 11th July 2007 at The Royal Oak, Alton.

1. PRESENT: Alan Heath(chair),John Moorhouse (Treasurer), Gillian Morrison,Linda Goodwin, David Scrivens, Sally Kadjenouri and Pat Riesco.
2. APOLOGIES Angie Hurst

3. MINUTES OF THE LAST MEETING: These were read and agreed

4. MATTERS ARISING: John reported that donations were still coming in for advertising on the website but there are still a lot who have not paid. So a list of these will be given to Angie so that she can chase them up,if ok for her to do so.
It was noted that copies of the minutes should be made available at Gill’s shop (Alton Tiles) for people to collect, Pat expressed a wish to help in distribution if needed.Gill also said that as a lot of people still do not have email or access to the web that we should try to get some sort of information sheet out to the residents. John suggested that questions about this subject should be used in the appraisal we want to get out either later this year or early in the new year.

5. WEBSITE: The group expressed their approval of Neil’s efforts. John has given Neil a copy of the Alton Surgery practice leaflet so that he can update the website together with a disc of photographs from the Alton Fete which he has already put on the website.
Dave met Neil today & has given him a lot of information about funding for local projects which he can use. Neil asked about a programme which would greatly enhance his ability to work on the website,Dreamweaver. It was agreed that this should be purchased & registered under the SRB name. Dave said that he had already obtained information on grants available & was sure that we could cover in excess of 50% of the cost(£300). Great news

6. PUMP AREA AND NEW ROAD GARDEN: Dave has not yet applied for the funding,as mistakenly reported last month because he is still waiting for the second quote from the Parish Council. However he saw councillor Forrester at the St John’s fete & this is under way.

YOUTH PROJECT: The Alton Skate Society now has a constitution,a chairman & a treasurer (over 18 yrs old) so they are hoping to raise some funds for a bank account. Dave informed Sally of a contact, Dean Goodwin who was on the Staffs CC Youth Service & would be able to help them with grants etc. SMCRVS money & know how on what may also be available to them.

7. SPORTS FIELD: This is still on hold. It was decided that this should also be included in the Appraisal questionnaire

8. TRANSPORT CO-ORDINATOR: Laura was not present but Dave has spoken to Stella Heritage at the St John’s fete,Stella is a is dominant in some established groups in the village, He explained that some of the transport could be used for a bus to Ashbourne or Leek market maybe on a monthly basis or trips for the old age pensioners or the playgroup & she was keen to find out about what is on offer.

9. ALLOTMENTS: Mr Wigg sent a copy of a letter he has written to father Philip at the Castle about looking into the possibility of a site for allotments in the village down on Horse Road. He will get back to the group when he has had more information.

10. ANY OTHER BUSINESS: It was decided at the last meeting to advertise for an Information Co-ordinator at St John’s Fete, we are waiting to hear from Angie. Again it was stressed that we need someone to be in charge of getting information out to villagers who do not use the website. Dave agreed we would be able to get funding for the new appraisal as previously discussed. John mentioned that several people had mentioned the village plan for the conservation area which is due to be revised by SMDC in liaison with the villagers.Dave mentioned that this is a matter for the Parish Council & it is up to them to inform the villagers of any future plans .John mentioned that there had been remarks made at the last Parish Council meeting regards the lack of funding coming from our group (SRB) for projects as promised by Dave when attending one of the PC meetings.
Dave replied that he had informed the Parish Council that funds were available but plans for any projects had to be made & submitted ,through him if necessary, in order for any grants to be obtained, John confirmed this was the case,as he had attended the PC meeting where this was discussed.
Dave also stated that from 2008 the police checks for anyone working closely with children ,this would include fetes even where a one to one instance is very unlikely. It was generally feared that this would make village events almost impossible .

DATE TIME AND PLACE OF THE NEXT MEETINGS: Tuesday 11th September, Tuesday 9th October & Tuesday 13th November 2007 at the Royal Oak Pub at 7.30
