ALTON PRIMARY CARE CENTRE
Newsletter No 3 — February 2006
News from Prima 200
Progress has been fairly rapid and the roof structure is now up. This means that the contractors can begin to work inside, building internal walls, and installing plumbing and electrical systems.
Overall, work is a little behind the timetable at the moment as the very cold weather we had before Christmas delayed the bricklaying. However, the contractors are hopeful that they can make the time up.
Over the next month you’ll see the roof completed. The windows will then go in and the external covering (render) of the building will be going on.
News from the PCT
Good News for Alton Community
Staffordshire Moorlands Primary Care Trust (PCT) has announced an exciting range of services for the new-build surgery in Alton, which is due to open this summer.
At its Board meeting on 19th January, the PCT discussed how best to use the new facilities in Alton to benefit local people and deliver improved primary and community services. After careful consideration, it was decided to offer a range of service from this purpose built premises.
Not only would this allow the existing practice in Alton to re-locate to the new premises, but also the Waterhouses practice would be able to use the building to provide regular consulting sessions and enhanced services more locally for the 400+ Alton residents that it currently cares for.
In addition, the PCT has requested a range of enhanced services to be provided at the surgery that will benefit patients registered with other practices in the area.
In making these decisions the Board took into account the number of patients registered with other practices living in Alton and the area, together with the
need to use the new development in a way that would allow more local people to be served at the Alton surgery by their own general practice.
Director of Primary Care & Service Improvement at the PCT, Jon Holliday, said: “This new development and the opportunities it brings to improve services for local people represent a significant investment in local health care. The PCT Board is confident it has taken the right decisions that will bring the benefits they wish to see to the maximum number of local people. I look forward to working with the two practices to realise these opportunities.”
