Flooding occurs from many sources and responsibilities are shared amongst various authorities and landowners.
Severn Trent Water, Staffs County Council and Staffs Moorlands are all working together to address the issues in Alton.
SEVERN TRENT – is undertaking a full hydraulic study of the public sewerage system in Alton. This involves construction of a computer model of the system which is calibrated using flow and rainfall measurements taken on site.
This will identify any deficiencies and confirm observed problems, e.g. Crumpwood Lane flooding, and identify solutions. It will also examine the interaction between the natural drainage systems and the sewerage system.
Temporary protection measures have been provided at a number of properties and funding for overflow orifices in the wall at Horse Road.
STAFFS MOORLANDS – has commissioned a report by JMP consultants into works required to alleviate land drainage and highway flooding.
